Angel Fluff

By: Kristy from Mommy Hates Cooking
Angel Fluff

If you're a fan of angel food cake and cherry pie filling, then you're going to fall in love with this simple dessert recipe. Angel Fluff is light and delicious - a dessert that will leave everyone asking for more. This is a lovely treat to add to your Mother's Day menu this year because it's so dainty. It is also a festive patriotic dessert because of its red and white coloring. You'll be able to make this dessert for more than one occasion.

Ingredients
  • 1 angel food cake
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (8 ounce) package low fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1 container fat free Cool Whip
  • 1 can (21 ounce) cherry pie filling
  • pecans, optional
Instructions
  1. Start by tearing the angel food cake into small pieces, this would basically make it about 5 cups of torn pieces.

  2. In a medium sized bowl mix the sugar and cream cheese, beating until well blended.

  3. Add in the cool whip, but be sure to reserve about 2oz for the top of the dessert. Go ahead and stir the pecans into the mixture if you choose to use them. Also, stir in the angel food cake pieces.

  4. In a nice large bowl, spoon 1/2 the mixture onto the bottom, top with about 3/4 of the cherry pie filling.

  5. Add the remaining mixture and the last bit of cool whip.

  6. Top with the last of the pie filling and sprinkle with a few more pecans and you have a nice, beautiful dessert. Serve chilled.

My husband should really like this. He enjoys angel food cake. The combination of cream cheese, cool whip, confectioner's sugar and pie filling will make a nice dessert for him. I think he would particularly love it with a can of strawberry rhubarb pie filling. I think it could be made with strawberry or other favorite flavors too.

Oh my, how delicious is THIS! In my book anything with Angel Food Cake is guaranteed to be a winner and this recipe is no exception to that. I didnt have any Cool Whip so used fresh cream instead but everything was exactly as per the recipe and it was very very tasty indeed. If your family is anything like mine I definitely recommend you give this a try. It is VERY GOOD!

This recipe sounds so easy for something that looks so elegant. This might be the perfect thing for dessert after a hearty Christmas dinner. I'm not a fan of cherries though. Has anyone tried this with a different berry? I noticed that someone mentioned blueberries, but has anyone tried raspberries? I love raspberries, but I'm not sure if that would change the recipe too much.

I made a dessert like this once at a cooking demonstration at my local library, but the one there was way more complicated. This one has fewer steps and seems just as delicious. Cherries are my favorite dessert fruits and with whipped cream - to die for!

My grandaughter likes anything with cherries! I think this has become one of her top five desserts made with cherries.

Has any one tried just using a yellow cake instead of the angel food?

Sounds good. I like Danielle P's idea of chocolate shavings... I think I'll try mine with fresh masterated strawberries.

I made this recipe a long time ago, but used blueberry pie filling. The recipe was lost, and I'm so glad to find this one. Fantastic!!

This is one of the easiest home-made dessert recipes I have come across online in awhile. It sounds scrumptious, and I know this would be an excellent choice for a party, a pot-luck or a treat for a family member or friend. Since I love chocolate, I would venture to use a bit of dark chocolate when making this recipe. Thanks for the original idea!

Shaving some "Dark" chocolate on top and/or between the layers sounds like a fantastic idea. Got to definitely try this one at our next community pot luck. Thanks for the ideas Danielle.
