Sugar and Spice Cut Out Cookies

Sugar and Spice Cut Out Cookies are full of everything nice, including flavor. Because they are cut out cookies, they also make the perfect canvas for decorations. Make people, stars, hearts, or dinosaurs. The sky is the limit!

Cooking Time6 min

Ingredients

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together until well blended. Add margarine, butter, or shortening.

  2. Use hands and work into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. You may store this mixture in an air tight container in refrigerator until ready to use.

  3. When you are ready to bake the cookies, preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  4. Combine spices, vinegar, and beaten eggs thoroughly. Add spice mixture to refrigerated cookie mix.

  5. Roll out or shape on wax paper to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut desired shapes and transfer to greased or parchment-lined baking sheets.

  6. Bake about 6 minutes. Do not brown. Cool one minute and then remove to rack.

  7. Store in an airtight container. Eat plain or decorate with frosting, candies, sprinkles, etc.
