Poppy Seed Cookies


  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt and set aside. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and egg and mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Divide dough in half. On waxed paper, form into a roll. Wrap each roll well and freeze or refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Remove from freezer and cut into 1/4" slices. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven 10 to 12 minutes or until golden. Remove from cookie sheet and cool on rack.
