  • 1 can crushed pineapple, (20-ounce) with juice
  • 1 can cherry pie filling, (21-ounce)
  • 1 package devil's food cake mix, (18.25-ounce) (also other ingredients noted on box)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (make it mint chocolate chips if desired)
  • 1/2 cup butter, sliced

  2. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Pour pineapple with juice into prepared pan, spreading evenly to make the first layer.
  3. Spread cherry pie filling over the pineapple layer, then spread the cake mix (as prepared on box) over the cherry pie filling.
  4. Sprinkle the cake mix layer with pecans and mint chocolate chips, then distribute the sliced butter evenly over the top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.

Thanks for your comment. Don't forget to share!

I have made this cake several times, even switched the cherry for blueberry and turned out perfect every time.

Is the final cake something you can slice or is it so moist and heavy you have to eat with a spoon ? thanks

I like this one too rating 8

how can you prepare cake mix as per pkg directions, spread over pie filling and then sprinkle dry cake mix over top??? Something wrong with the directions

Read the recipe again--you are to sprinkle pecans and mint chocolate chips over the cake mix layer--not dry cake mix!

I won't make this cake again. After baking it the cake mix was dry just like when I spreaded it on the top

You are supposed to mix the cakemix with the other ingredients listed on the cake mix box. Don't just sprinkle the dry mix on the cake.

This is why you should READ RECIPES CAREFULLY before you make them...the directions clearly say to prepare the cake mix according to package instructions, not sprinkle it on dry!
