For a really unique fried chicken recipe, try this Golden Fried Chicken. The corn and bananas lend wonderful flavor, and the golden color of the whole kit and kaboodle is quite pleasing.

  • 4 to 6 chicken pieces
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • a little flour
  • 1 egg, beaten with 2 tablespoons water
  • breadcrumbs for dredging
  • 1/2 pound chippolata sausages
  • 2 to 3 ears of corn on the cob
  • 2 to 3 bananas
  • juice of 1 small lemon
  • 1 pinch nutmeg (generous), optional
  • oil for frying

  1. Cut each corn cob into 4 - 5 pieces; set aside.
  2. Peel and thickly slice the bananas; sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent browning then sprinkle with nutmeg;set aside.
  3. Remove skin from chicken, season well with salt and pepper and sprinkle with flour.
  4. Dip chicken pieces, one at a time, first in egg and water mix, then in breadcrumbs.
  5. Pour oil into frying pan to 3/4 inches in depth; when hot, fry chicken quickly on both sides until brown.
  6. Pour off all but 2 tablespoons of the oil, reduce heat and add chippolatas.
  7. After about 10 minutes, add the corn pieces and continue cooking about 15 more minutes until chicken and sausages are cooked.   Turn the corn occasionally to cook evenly.
  8. Add bananas for the last few minutes of cooking.
