Wacky Pizza Casserole

Why make a boring, everyday casserole recipe when you can try out something unexpected and new? This Wacky Pizza Casserole dish is one of our favorite weeknight dinner ideas because it will keep your family on their toes. You may not think pizza and casserole go together, but once you take a bite of this amazing dish, you'll be convinced otherwise.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound spaghetti
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 jar pizza sauce
  • 1 jar spaghetti sauce
  • mushrooms
  • 1 medium onion
  • 8 ounces pepperoni
  • 1 8-ounce package Swiss cheese
  • 1 8-ounce package mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Brown sausage and drain.
     
  3. Cook spaghetti and drain.
     
  4. Dice onion and pepperoni and add to sausage.
     
  5. Pour pizza sauce and spaghetti sauce into skillet with sausage and mushrooms. Simmer until hot.
     
  6. Layer spaghetti, sauce and cheese in large casserole dish. Cover top with remaining cheese (if any extra spaghetti and sauce remain, repeat above in another dish).
     
  7. Bake for 45 minutes or until cheese is melted.

This is an easy pasta casserole with the flavors of pizza. The entire family should enjoy this. Pair this with a tossed green salad and you have dinner. For a healthier version of this recipe, I would use turkey sausage and reduced fat shredded cheese. To ensure that the pasta is a good consistency in the casserole, the spaghetti should be drained while it is still underdone because it will continue to cook in the oven.

Oh gosh this sounds good-but Im going to add a small can of black Olives to it!!
