There's nothing quite like a slice of fluffy, sweet Irish Apple Cake. It's especially amazing when topped with a gooey custard glaze!

We love this recipe for Irish Apple Cake for a few reasons. First of all, even though it's made from scratch, this recipe bakes up with almost no effort. The simple ingredients combine for a cake that tastes like you spent hours on it.

Second, the flavor and texture are out of this world. You might consider baking a second cake just to have all to yourself. It's that good!

Finally, we love how elegant this cake looks when it's served with a generous serving of custard sauce. Pair it with a warm mug of tea or a cup of coffee (maybe an Irish coffee?), and you'll be in your own personal heaven.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 6 ounces butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 large apples, cored, peeled, and diced
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk

Irish Apple Cake Recipe

Instructions

  1. Grease and flour an 8" round springform pan.

  2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

  3. Place apples in a large bowl.

  4. Top with ¾ cup sugar.

  5. In a large bowl of a stand mixture with the paddle attachment, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

  6. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together.

  7. Add the apple/sugar mixture and the egg/milk mixture to the flour and beat on low to combine.

  8. Pour dough batter in pan.

  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes.

  10. Serve with a glaze (optional).

My nana who was from Northern Ireland used to make this delicious cake. I have been looking for the recipe for very long time. Can't wait to make it for my family

In the irish apple cake ingredients it lists 6 Tbl of butter, BUT I do not see it in the instructions. When does it go in

sorry meant to say 6 ounces NOT 6 Tbl.

It says to put in hot milk to melt

My Irish grandmother made an apple cake when I was a kid, and it was my absolute favorite dessert. This recipe seems like it really does hers justice! And trust me, that's high praise! )

I can't wait to try this cake out for myself! As a beginner baker, this recipe is not very intimidating and it clearly has a delicious end-result!

Apple cake is one of my absolute favorites! And with this custard glaze? Yes, please!

I'll be honest, this recipe had me at "gooey custard glaze." This is one of the few fruit cakes I enjoy because it's so smooth and flavorful.
