Burt's Barbecue Meatballs

Made with ground beef and bulk pork sausage, these meatballs are sure to please a hungry family or dinner party. This homemade meatball recipe goes great with mashed potatoes and a fresh garden salad.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups dry bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/4 cup onion, minced
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine beef, pork, onion, milk, egg, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and allspice.
     
  2. Form into 1" balls and cook in a single layer in a 350 degree oven for about 20-30 minutes, or until browned, Remove and drain.
     
  3. Cook onion in oil till tender, then add onion, tomato sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, Worchestershire sauce, sugar and dry mustard.
     
  4. Simmer for about 10 minutes, then place meatballs in a slow cooker and pour sauce over and keep warm.
