What is it that makes this dish so different than today's salisbury steaks? Is it the scallions and the red wine, or maybe the beef broth? I use a brown gravy in my recipe to give it a beefier flavor, and it thickens the juice from the patties. I love the Parmesan cheese. I use it too.

This sounds like a delightful retro recipe. I like eating Salisbury steak. Comfort food such as this is always popular with families. For a lighter version of this recipe, ground turkey could be used. I would also use reduced sodium beef broth.

My major experience with Salisbury Steak has been in the context of the TV dinner version. This is a really nice and advanced version, and I'd enjoy making this. I love the idea of serving this on the cheese toast, but do click over and look at the updated recipe that includes cheesy mashed potatoes instead of the toast. I also think that some rice with cheese would be a great bed for the Salisbury steaks.

So the last time I even heard the term Salisbury Steak was way back in elementary school when it used to be on the menu and I never got lunch on those days. This recipe, however, looks pretty good! The beef broth and wine sound amazing. I guess I never realized that the steak part was ground beef though. Can anyone suggest good side dishes to go along with this? Also what is the difference between this and the Swiss Steak?

I don't think I've ever had Salisbury steak and honestly I've only ever seen it in the frozen meals section. This looks so good though that I think I might have to try this recipe out on my family.

Why don't you ever post recipes for Swiss Steak?

This was awesome, it reminded me of my childhood. My husband felt it needed double the recipe on the sauce. But he loved it also.

Way too many ingredients to consider!
