Raisin Bread

Ingredients

  • Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup hot water plus 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Heat
  • milk. Add shortening, sugar and salt. Add yeast mixture. Add 2 cups
  • of flour and beat until smooth. Cover and set in warm place to rise
  • for 1 hour. Add raisins and enough flour to make a firm dough.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic to touch. Cover and set in warm
  • place to rise until double in bulk. Knead again. Form into loaves
  • and put in greased baking pan. Cover and let rise until double in
  • bulk. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.

Instructions

1 c. milk. 3 Tbsp. shortening. 4 Tbsp. sugar. 1 tsp. salt. 1 pkg. dry yeast. 4 1/2 c. flour. 1 c. raisins.
