Indian Tuvar Dal

Ingredients

  • 250 gm. tuvar dal, washed
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 50 gm. tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 springs fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon jaggerv
  • 2-3 curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon chillie powder
  • 1 teaspoon groundnut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 750 ml. water (5 cups)

Instructions

Put dal into cooker body with water. Close lid. Place cooker on maximum heat. Bring to full cooking pressure. Reduce to medium heat and cook for 3 min. Allow cooker to cool gradually and open. Mash dal well. Heat oil and season with mustard, curry leaves, asafoetida. Add cut tomatoes, salt chillie, turmeric powder, jaggery. Simmer for 10 min on slow heat. Garnish with finely cut coriander. Serve with plain rice.
