Home style Pizza Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 Tbs. active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 4 cup unbleached flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the water, yeast, honey & 4 tsp. flour. Stir gently to combine. Cover the bowl with a damp towel & let stand for 30 min. in a warm place until foamy. Add the remaining flour & salt, then knead for about 10 min., until the dough is well combined & smooth. (add additional amounts of flour if the dough is sticky) Cover with a damp towel, & let rise in a warm place for 45 min. or until doubled in volume. Punch the dough down & roll to fit into a 16" (40 cm) pizza pan. When you've topped it with your favorite toppings (such as tomatoes, olives, green peppers, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese etc.), cook in a preheated oven on 450 F (235 C) for about 15 -20 min. (or till the edges are rather red). NOTES: You may add herbs & garlic to the dough while kneading. Sun dried tomatoes are a great idea to add to the dough while kneading too.
