My Favorite Rigatoni and Sausage Sauce

I'm no expert chef or anything, but I do know what I like, and this is truly my favorite recipe for rigatoni and sausage sauce. It's really pretty easy, and the house smells great every time I cook it. You should try it too!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 4 Italian sausages
  • 2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon basil
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1 28-ounce can tomatoes, drained
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 ounce rigatoni pasta, cooked and drained

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan.
     
  2. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened.
     
  3. Remove sausage meat from casing, break up and add to pan.
     
  4. Cook for 5 minutes.
     
  5. Add mushrooms and basil and cook another 5 minutes.
     
  6. Add wine and cook until evaporated.
     
  7. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
     
  8. Add tomatoes to sauce and simmer 10 minutes.
     
  9. Add milk and salt and pepper to taste.
     
  10. Combine sauce and pasta and place in a serving dish. Serve with Parmesan cheese if desired.
