Dutch Santa Claus Cookies (st. Nikolaas Koekjes) Holland

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soft butter
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 4 cup sifted flour
  • 4 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup dairy sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Cream butter and shortening with sugar until light and fluffy. Sift flour and spices together. Dissolve baking soda in sour cream. Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream . Add nuts. Knead. Shape into roll about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Chill for 8 hours. Slice thin. Bake at 375 degF. for 10-15 minutes. makes 4 dozen cookies.
