Apple Slices with Icing

For a sweet ending to any meal, try these Apple Slices with Icing. They are baked to perfection and then topped with this sweet and delicious icing.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening or lard
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 6 cup sliced apples
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Sift flour with salt; cut in shortening as for pie crust.
     
  2. Mix egg yolks, lemon juice and water and sprinkle over flour mixture; blend lightly until dough is formed.
     
  3. Divide dough into two parts. Roll first piece to fit bottom and sides of 9x13 pan. Arrange apples in crust-lined pan, then sprinkle over with sugar-cinnamon mixture.
     
  4. Roll remaining dough to fit top; arrange over filling, fold and crimp/seal around edges.
     
  5. Cut steam vents in top crust. Bake about 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees F.
     
  6. For icng: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 Tbl. butter, 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1-2 Tbl. milk. Mix and spread over baked slices while slightly warm. Note: This is great with cherry filling also!
