Homemade Apple Pie

This homemade apple pie recipe will hit the spot and please the eye with original flavors and a creative crust. Follow this easy apple pie recipe and indulge in a warm fruit dessert.

Ingredients

  • pie crust
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon shortening
  • 4 1/2 tablespoon ice water
  • 1 1/2 sticks of butter
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 10 apples
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix pie crust in usual manner, chill 60 minutes, roll into two rounds.
     
  2. Add and mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
     
  3. Add butter and vanilla extract.
     
  4. Peel and dice apples. Mound in pie crust.
     
  5. Dot pie with butter and sprinkle with vanilla. Shell should be filled completely with apples and slightly mounded in center, add more apples if necessary.
     
  6. Top with second crust, cut creative design in top. Cover fluted edges w/strips of foil to keep from browning too quickly.
     
  7. Bake at 450 degrees F, 10 minutes.
     
  8. Reduce oven to 350 degrees F, bake 10 minutes.
     
  9. Remove foil from edges and bake until brown (30 minutes).
