Johnny-O Safario

Johnny-O Safario

This is a recipe I hold near to my heart. This was one of the last recipes I made for my father-in-law, John, before he passed away after a long battle with cancer. I specifically made this blend for him knowing he loved cherries and was requesting cherry juice during this time. Cherries are known to help support better sleep. I snuck in some purple cabbage and apple, and he loved it! I hope you enjoy it as much as he did.

YIELD: ABOUT 2 (16-OUNCE [480-ML]) SERVINGS

Ingredients

  • JUICING LINE UP
  • 46 CHERRIES
  • 1/2 OF A PURPLE CABBAGE
  • 2 COSMIC CRISP APPLES

GET JUICING!

  1. Wash all your produce and get ready to prep.

  2. Remove the stems and pits from the cherries. Remove a few of the outer leaves from the cabbage, including any that are damaged or wilted. Cut it into pieces to fit easily in the hopper.

  3. There is no need to peel the apples, but you can core them. Nama suggests coring because apple seeds are known to have toxicity; I prefer to core my apples when juicing.

  4. Add the ingredients to the hopper in this order: First layer your cherries, then add the cabbage and apples on top for a smoother juicing process.

  5. Once it’s loaded, turn on the juicer and run it until all the ingredients are juiced.

    TIP:
I recommend using a cherry pitter to remove pits from cherries. It makes it quicker and easier. Do not leave pits in the cherries, as they can damage your juicer.
