Ingredients

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 slice bread
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Butter a 1-quart baking dish.

  3. Cut bread into cubes.

  4. Mix eggs, milk, sugar, salt, vanilla and cinnamon together.

  5. Layer bread cubes and raisins in baking dish so that raisins don't all end up at the bottom.

  6. Add liquid. Press bread so that it absorbs some of the liquid and isn't dry.

  7. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until knife inserted half-way into the center comes out clean.

Note: You can also add 1/2-inch cubes of apples, blueberries (or other berries), or pieces of pecan or walnuts.
