Shortcut Country Apple Dessert

If you love comforting baked goods but don't have a ton of time to make them, try this simple recipe for Shortcut Country Apple Dessert. It has the same great flavor and rustic charm as old-fashioned apple dessert recipes, but can be made with half the effort. Using a yellow cake mix and a can of apple pie filling, you'll barely have to lift a finger to make this delicious autumn-inspired treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can (20-ounce) apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, butter and egg at low speed with electric mixer to form a crumbly dough.
     
  3. Press mixture into bottom of an ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan.
     
  4. Spread apple pie filling over top.
     
  5. Combine brown sugar, nuts and cinnamon. Sprinkle over pie filling.
     
  6. Combine sour cream, egg and vanilla and pour over top.
     
  7. Bake for 40 to 55 minutes or until golden brown.
