4th of July Dizzy Berries

These 4th of July Dizzy Berries are a sweet treat to indulge in during your Independence Day cookout. The patriotic red, white, and blue colors bring a festive touch to the dessert table. Soaked in vodka and coated in melted candy, this play on the classic chocolate covered strawberry is too tempting to pass up. Just make sure every knows they aren't for the younger crowd -- unless you feel like make a separate, alcohol-free batch just for the kiddos! Enjoy this 4th of July dessert recipe with family and friends on the back patio while you watch the neighborhood fireworks. You can even customize the color of the sprinkles and candy melts to enjoy this strawberry dessert recipe during other holidays and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, make sure they are pretty and ripe
  • 2 cup vanilla-flavored vodka
  • 2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/4 cup blue-colored sugar crystals

Instructions

  1. Rinse strawberries well and place into a large container.

  2. Cover the berries with vanilla vodka and place in the fridge overnight to soak.

  3. Drain berries and dry each very well.  It’s crucial that they are very dry for the next step.

  4. In a bowl, melt candy melts in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until fully melted. (Careful not to burn!)

  5. Carefully dip berries half way in the melted candy, allowing excess to drip off.

  6. Dip the tips in blue sugar and set on parchment paper to set.

  7. Berries will harden in 10-15 minutes.
