Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cup all purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
     
  2. Cream butter; add sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy. Add extract. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
     
  3. Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beating until blended after each addition.
     
  4. Wrap dough in foil or plastic wrap and chill several hours or overnight.
     
  5. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
     
  6. Roll out part of the dough at a time about 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured board. Cut with floured 2 1/2 inch cookie cutters.
     
  7. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and bake on ungreased baking sheets for 8 to 9 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
     
  8. Cool on racks.
