Frosty Christmas Tree Cookies

Frosty Christmas Tree Cookies make beautiful gifts. These Christmas cut out cookies make good outdoor décor for your yearly gingerbread house, and they are wonderful stocking stuffers or food gifts for Christmas on their own!

Ingredients

  • COOKIE RECIPE:
  • 3 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • ICING RECIPE:
  • 1 pound confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup water
  • green food coloring

Instructions

COOKIES:

  1. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cocoa and spices together.
     
  2. Beat butter, sugar, egg, and molasses in a large bowl until fluffy and light. Stir in the flour mixture, until well blended.
     
  3. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill several hours or overnight.
     
  4. When dough is set, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  5. Roll out dough 1/3 at a time on lightly floured surface 1/4" thick, and cut with floured tree shaped cookie cutter.
     
  6. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheets at 350 degrees for 8 minuets until edges are brown. Cool a few minuets on the cookie sheets, and then remove to cooling rack.
     
  7. Cool completely, frost with icing and decorate with sprinkles, jimmies, etc. Makes aprox. 3 dozen cookies.

ICING:

  1. Combine confectioners sugar, vanilla extract, water, and a few drops green food coloring in a medium bowl, stirring until smooth.
     
  2. Add more water, one teaspoon at a time, until spoonable and flows easily.
