Secret Ingredient German Cake

You're not going to believe the ingredients in this one-of-a-kind cake recipe, but after your first bite, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good it really is. Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 baking powder
  • 1 baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup beer
  • 2/3 cup sauerkraut (chopped, rinsed, and drained)

  • For the Icing:
  • __BLANK__
  • 8 ounce cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup confectioners sugar
  • 2 tablespoon cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time.
  3. Add beer. Add cocoa. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda and powder. Add to creamed mixture slowly, until all is mixed.
  4. Fold in sauerkraut. Put into a slightly greased 9 by 15 baking pan.
  5. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes at 375 degrees F.

For the Icing:

  1. Cream the cream cheese in mixer.
  2. Add cream and vanilla. Add sugar slowly.
  3. Spread over top of cake.
