NotesCooking for a Smaller Family? You can cut the ingredients in half and prepare the casserole in an 8-inch square baking dish.

Want to Prep Ahead? I like to prepare the meat sauce over the weekend and keep it in an airtight container in my refrigerator (or freezer) until I'm ready to assemble the casserole. You can also assemble the casserole in the morning (or the night before) and keep it covered in the refrigerator until you're ready to bake it in the evening. Allow the casserole dish to sit on the counter for about 30 minutes to come to room temp before baking (or add about 5-10 minutes to the baking time to make sure that it's fully heated through).
