One-Pan Double Chocolate Cake

One-Pan Double Chocolate Cake will be your new, favorite, easy cake recipe! This is one of those chocolate cake recipes that everyone can enjoy because not only is it super moist and chocolatey, it's also egg, milk, and butter free. Instead, vegetable oil and other common ingredients take their place. It's made super chocolatey with cocoa powder and you can take it to the next level with a delicious chocolate frosting recipe or another frosting of your choice. This cake recipe was adapted from a similar recipe made frequently during the Great Depression when eggs, milk, and butter were too expensive for most households to buy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • 3 tablespoon cocoa (unsweetened)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 5 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Mix first 5 ingredients in a greased 8-inch square baking pan.

  2. Combine water and vinegar together and pour into dry ingredients.

  3. Combine vanilla and oil together and pour into dry ingredients. Mix well until smooth.

  4. Bake on the middle rack of an oven at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes. Check with a toothpick to make sure it comes out clean. Let cool. Top cake with your favorite frosting!
