Buttermilk Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup shortning
  • 3 /12 cups flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Cream shortning with sugar. Add eggs and milk. Mix dry ingredients. Add vanilla, then soda and hot water. Grease and flour large cast iron skillet place mixture in skillet (must be cast iron for proper results). Bake at 325F for 45 minutes. Upon removing cake let stand ten minutes and place on brown paper bag (grocery bag).
