Timeless Molasses Bars

Skip the chocolate chips and make a sweet molasses dessert bar. Reminisce of the good old days and enjoy this recipe with a cold glass of milk. With brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger and powdered sugar, they're hard to resist.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar till mixture is light and fluffy. Add molasses and egg; beat well.
     
  3. Thoroughly blend flour, baking powder, ginger, salt and baking soda.
     
  4. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with water; mix well. Stir in raisins.
     
  5. Pour mixture into greased 13 X 9 X 2-inch baking pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
     
  6. Cool thoroughly; sift powdered sugar on the top and cut into bars.
