Chocolate Streusel Bars

Tired of the same old dessert bar recipes you've been making for years? Here's a non-traditional version of a great German classic: streusel. These yummy Chocolate Streusel Bars are a great on-the-go dessert and they're a fun twist on a classic treat. Try making a batch tonight and see what you think of these chocolate-y delights!

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 8 ounce cream cheese, softened
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and cocoa. Cut in margarine until crumbly (mixture will be dry).
     
  3. Reserving 2 cups of crumb mixture, press remainder firmly on bottom of 13 x 9" baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
     
  4. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually beat in condensed milk until smooth.
     
  5. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Pour over prepared crust.
     
  6. Combine nuts with reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over cheese mixture.
     
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until bubbly.
     
  8. Cool then chill. Cut into bars.
     
  9. Store covered in refrigerator.
