How to Make Fondue 2 Ways

Ingredients

Cheese Fondue

  • 1 clove of garlic, smashed
  • 1 ¼ cups dry white wine (Pinot Grigio)
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1-2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon brandy
Dippers
  • Cubes of bread (French baguette)
  • Apple slices
  • Smoked kielbasa sausage, sliced
 
Chocolate Fondue
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 ounces chopped semi-sweet chocolate
  • 2 ounces chopped bittersweet (dark) chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 1 tablespoon brandy
Dippers
  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Marshmallows
  • Pound cake bites

Instructions for Cheese Fondue

  1. Rub the inside of a saucepan with the garlic clove and discard. Heat the wine to a simmer.
     

  2. Toss the cheeses with the cornstarch and mix well.
     

  3. Add the cheese to the pot and stir until cheese is melted.
     

  4. Stir in the dry mustard, lemon juice, and brandy.
     

  5. Continue stirring for a few more minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
     

  6. Serve with dippers of your choice. We used cubed meat, bread, and apples.
     

Instructions for Chocolate Fondue

  1. In a small saucepan or skillet heat the cream on low heat until simmering.
     

  2. Stir in the chopped chocolate, espresso powder, and brandy. Continue stirring until chocolate has melted.
     

  3. Serve with dippers of your choice. We used fruit and cubed pound cake.
