Lazy Cabbage Skillet

When you don't feel like putting much effort into dinner, turn to this Lazy Cabbage Skillet recipe. In just a few simple steps you'll have a flavorful vegetable side dish that's sure to please the entire family. Skillet recipes are fast and easy, just the way you want a weeknight dinner dish to be. Try this cabbage skillet for supper tonight and you'll be pleased by its simplicity and delicious flavor.

Serves: 4

Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
  1. Heat the oil in a large frypan about 20 minutes before serving time.
     
  2. Add all ingredients and cook over medium to low heat about 15 minutes. Stir often.
     
  3. Cover pan during the last 5 minutes of cooking time. Stir once or twice.
     
  4. Serve immediately.  Vegetables will be crisp.

I made this and thought it was bland, so tried it again but added some choriezo (sp?), sausage and cayenne pepper. Not only did it kick the flavor up, but made it a complete meal.

Hi all, The recipe refers to 20 minutes of total cooking time. Most of that 20 minutes will be spent cooking the veggies. Hope this helps! --editors of RecipeLion

response to dmolsen0305 9581572: OK I read the instructions also, and it said to "heat the oil in the frying pan 20 min. before serving", not 20 min. total cooking. I understand it to mean maybe 20 min. of total cooking, but that is not what the recipe states.

If oil is heated for 20 minutes before you add anything wouldn't it catch on fire?

Read the instructions!!! cook for 15 minutes, then 5 min covered. 15 +5 = 20
