Sweet and Sour Beef Stew

Made with brown sugar, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, this easy stew recipe has that classic sweet and sour flavor but in a new form you may never have tried before. Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound beef stew meat, cut in 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 cup carrot, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, sliced
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • hot cooked noodles
  • poppy seed (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown meat in hot oil.
     
  2. Add next 6 ingredients, 1/2 cup water, and 1 teaspoon salt. Cover and cook over low heat until meat is tender, about 2 hours.
     
  3. Combine cornstarch and 1/4 cup cold water; add to beef mixture. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
     
  4. Serve over noodles sprinkled with poppy seed, if desired. Garnish with carrot curls and parsley, if desired.
