Easy Campbell's Chicken Broth Gravy

This is the easiest of easy when it comes to Campbells chicken soup recipes. A wonderfully tasty gravy that's easy to make - now that's good eats!

Cooking Time: 45 min

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 can Campbell's chicken broth (plus 1 can of water)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon MSG or Accent Flavor Enhancer
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
  1. Make a roux by combining the oil with 1 1/2 tablespoons of the flour in a medium saucepan over low heat.
     
  2. Heat the mixture for 20-30 minutes, stirring often, until it is a dark chocolate color.
     
  3. Remove the roux from the heat and stir in the rest of the flour.
     
  4. Add the broth, salt, MSG, and pepper and mix well.
     
  5. Put the saucepan back over the heat, turn it up to medium and bring the gravy to a boil.
     
  6. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes, or until thick.  Makes about 3 cups.

i have never made this recipe, but back in the day i would brown chicken in a frying pan, then add seasonings of choice and add chicken broth with cream of chicken soup and simmer my chicken for a very long time ,til the chicken was very tender and had absorbed almost all of the liquid. this does take quite a bit of time,but if someone put this in a slow cooker,it would not matter the time taken up if one planned ahead and it would save the time of making the roux. however i looked at this recipe and thought,if i made this roux out of the chicken fat in the pan after frying and added enough broth to simmer in my slow cooker i bet it would be so yummy.
