6 Foot Party Sandwich

For your next big event, wow the crowd with an enormous party sandwich with cold cuts. With this amount of bread, the sandwich fillings ideas are endless. Use healthy sandwich filling to cut down on calories.

Serves: 30

Ingredients
  • 6 foot-long whole Italian bread
  • 4 pounds thin slice cold cuts (turkey, salami, pastrami, bologna)
  • 2 pounds assorted sliced cheese
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 1 quart mayonnaise
  • 4 onions, very thinly sliced
  • 6 large tomatoes, thin sliced
  • 1 quart kosher dill pickles, thin sliced
  • Salt and pepper
  • Mustard
Instructions
  1. Order a large bread from your deli or bakery .Pick up the bread on the day you plan to serve this.
     
  2. Lay the bread with board on a long table. Slice bread in half with a serrated knife.
     
  3. Spread one half of bread with mayonnaise and the other half with mustard. Layer on the meats and cheeses. Layer the onions, tomatoes, lettuce and pickles. Salt and pepper to taste. Add anything else you want to (sliced or hot peppers etc).
     
  4. Carefully place on top half of bread to cover. It takes two people to do this. Use long wooden bamboo skewers or very long toothpicks to secure sections of the sandwich together.
     
  5. One can cut a good 30 pieces - more if cut a bit smaller. It is best to prepare the sandwich just before serving time. Serve with potato salad, macaroni salad and other party salads.
