Guinness and Vanilla Ice Cream

The flavor of Guinness is incredible. Many people call Guinness the "chocolate milk" of beer. That is what makes Guinness the perfect ingredient to add to spice up your ice cream. Don't worry, this is still ice cream you can serve to your kids.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup Guinness beer
  • 1 1/2 cup golden beer
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

(makes about 5 cups)

1) In a large saucepan, heat both beers over medium heat until boiling point.

2) In a heat resistant bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar and vanilla extract until well blended.

3) Slowly, pour the hot beer mixture over the yolks and sugar, beating constantly.

4) Put the mixture again in the pan and cook over low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, until thick enough to cover the back of the spoon (about 5 minutes).

5) Pass the custard through a sieve over a clean bowl and chill in the fridge.

6) Put the mixture in an ice cream machine and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions. If possible, let stand for 2 to 3 hours before serving.
