Cranichan Dessert

Cranichan is a traditional Scottish dessert, but the ingredients aren't really unusual. The only thing that will surprise you is the whiskey! This is a creamy and fruity dessert you'll love.

Serves: 6

Preparation Time: 10 min

Cooking Time: 15 min

Ingredients
  • 1 pint whipping cream
  • 1 pound cream cheese (or marscarpone)
  • 250 grams honey
  • 1 1/2 pints raspberries, blackberries or boysenberries
  • 1/2 pound steel cut oats
  • 1 bottle whiskey
Instructions
  1. Toast oats in oven till dry and just beginning to brown.
     
  2. Whip cream. Mix 50:50 cream and mascarpone.
     
  3. Add a large shot of whisky and tablespoon honey to taste.
     
  4. Two ways to serve: Put bowls of Crowdie (cream, cheese, honey & whisky), berries, whisky bottle, honey jar and oats on tables and everyone helps themselves. Put oats in bottom of a glass. Add more whisky and honey to crowdie and pour over oats. Pour Berries on top. Serve.
