Applesauce Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1 pound apples, peeled, cored and chunked
  • 1/3 c water
  • 4 c white bread, crusts removed, cubed
  • 6 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/3 c maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp sugar
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375. In a saucepan, combine apples and water and cook over moderately high heat until soft and liquid is boiled away. Beat with a fork to make a relatively smooth puree. Combine sugar in cinnamon, set aside. Toss bread with butter and syrup in an 8" pie plate. Stir the applesauce into bread mixture and sprinkle sugar evenly over top. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream or custard sauce.
