I tried this recipe again, with the following changes, and it was very good. Crockpot was set to LOW for a little less than 3 hours.

Against my better judgement, I followed the directions to cook on HIGH. Couldn't check on it since I put it on at midnight and went to bed. Six hours later, there was a burnt brick in my crockpot. I will definitely make this again, but will set it on LOW. Or, put it on first thing in the a.m. & cook on HIGH for half the time.

PastisPrologue: I understand your concern, as usually a slow cooker recipe that cooks that long is cooked on low. The time is correct, however. As a rule of thumb, check the recipe for done-ness as it's cooking and use your best judgment. Thanks! Blair, editor for RecipeLion.com

This looks like an awesome one, but is 6-8 hours on HIGH correct? Seems either a little too hot or a little too long, but maybe I'm mistaking.

@msbrede 0033730: Yes, you could use crab or tuna in this recipe. However, it might shorten the cooking time. Of course, any substitution will affect the final flavor of this recipe. If you do decide to use something else instead of the ham, let us know how it turns out! - RecipeLion Editors

Would this recipe work with 1 can of crab meat or tuna in place of the ham? I need something that has no meat for Lent.
