Barbecue Slow Cooker Chicken

Barbecue Slow Cooker Chicken

If it's too cold to stand outside over the grill, try making barbecue chicken in your slow cooker. The chicken comes out just as moist and tasty without all the work.

Serves: 6

  • 2-3 lbs chicken
  • 1 cup catsup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons butter, optional
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce + 2 tablespoons sugar, optional
  1. Heat all ingredients except lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce and heat until hot. Pour over skinned and cleaned chicken.
  3. Cook in slow cooker for about 6-8 hours on low. 4-6 hours on high.

@bradshawbrd, hello and thanks for the comments! I understand the need for nutritional information. Unfortunately many of these recipes were reader submitted, so we just don't have the information at this time. We hope to work on it. Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this recipe! Sometimes it can be a bit confusing, with so many of our recipes being reader submitted. I think starting with 4 oz and adding the other 4 oz tomato sauce as needed is a great idea. I've updated the recipe to call for 8 oz. Thanks much!

Hunts has a 4 oz. can of tomato sauce for those who were wondering.

I have worked my entire life in Supermarkets. I have never seen tomato sauce in a 4 oz can. 8 oz is the smallest.

Hi, I would start out with a 4oz. tomato sauce, and taste and if you want a more tomato taste, then add another 4oz. can.....this should be enough....whoever did this recipe should have specified what size....... I haven't made this yet, but I will and I too will start out with a 8oz size.....
