How to Prevent Cilantro from Spoiling

Cilantro tends to spoil quickly — within a week.

  • Wash and dry it and then place stems in a glass of water.

  • Cover with a plastic bag and place in the door of your refrigerator (securely, so it won't tip over).

  • It will keep 3 weeks or more.

I buy cilantro every time I make pico. I only use like half a cup and the rest usually goes bad. I will have to try this. I just made pico yesterday and have some cilantro left over. My sister does this for green onions, but she leaves them out on her counter.

I always have trouble keeping Cilantro from going bad. I have even tried storing it in those special green bags that are supposed to keep food fresher longer, but those don't seem to work, either. Letting the stems continue to suck up water, just like cut flowers, makes sense! I love this tip and I am going to try it next time I buy Cilantro!
