Almost Stuffed Cabbage With Sausage

If you like stuffed cabbage but don't like all the work, then this easy recipe is for you. With shredded cabbage, there's no rolling and stuffing - just put everything into the cooker and let 'er rip. Easy and tasty!

Serves: 6

Preparation Time: 10 min

Cooking Time: 25 min

Ingredients
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 1/2 16-ounce can whole tomatoes, drained and chopped
  • 1 pound lean ground beef, uncooked
  • 1/2 pound link sausage, uncooked and sliced thin
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in an electric rice cooker.
     
  2. Set on "cook" setting.
     
  3. When cooker switches to "warm" setting, stir and allow to sit covered for 10 minutes.

I think you could use a slow cooker, but you might have to cook the rice beforehand. That's how they do cabbage rolls in the slow cooker, anyway. Set for 5 hours.

I would also like to know if it can be made in a crock pot instead of a rice cooker. Hope we find out.

I don't have a rice cooker - could a crock pot be used instead or just a regular pot? Thanks
