Peanut Patties

Ingredients
  • 6 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup light corn syrup (Karo syrup)
  • 5 cups raw peanuts
  • 8 drops red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/8 tsp salt
Instructions

Generously grease a large pan with sides. Bring water, sugar and corn syrup to a boil; add peanuts and food coloring. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the candy reaches the Hard-Ball state (256 F degrees) on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and add the butter and salt. Beat until the mixture becomes thick. Pour into prepared pan. Break into pieces when cool. Note: You can also make these into patties by putting the mixture into greased muffin cups.
