Mint Sticks

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint oil (or wintergreen, clove, anise etc)
  • Confectioner's sugar

Instructions

Combine sugar, butter and water. Boil to 270F. Remove from heat and add flavoring. Pour onto a buttered marble slab(or cookie sheet) and let cool until finger leaves impression when pushed in center. Pull as for taffy(add more flavoring while pulling if desired). Shape into a long thin rope and roll in confectioner's sugar. Cut into 3" pieces. Store these in a single layer, loosely covered (Do Not put in air-tight container)for a few days until as "hard" as you like. BTW food coloring can be added with flavoring if you like.
