Molasses Taffy

Ingredients

  • 3 c light molasses
  • 3 pounds sugar
  • 1/2 c vinegar
  • 2 c water
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 3/4 ts baking soda, sifted
  • 2 ts vanilla

Instructions

Yield: 5 Servings. Combine molasses, sugar, vinegar and weater in a large, heavy pan, boil to hard-bal stage. add butter, boil to hard ball stage or 260 F on a candy thermometer. remove from heat, add baking soda, samll amount at a time, stirring constantly. add vanilla, stir. Pour onto buttered marble top or large platter. cool until mixture can be handled. pull until golden. cut into bite-sized pieces. Wrap. Yields:5 lbs.
