South's Best Buttermilk Coconut Cake

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Crisco oil
  • 1 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon coconut flavoring
  •  
  • For the Topping:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon coconut flavoring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
     
  2. Mix all cake ingredients together well and pour into a greased Bundt pan.
     
  3. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
     
  4. Prepare the topping: Boil together 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water for 5 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut flavoring.
     
  5. Pour topping over hot cake and leave for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Serve with whipped cream if desired.

Can you use any other kind of flavoring besides coconut, but still make this cake taste good?

This sounds great, do you add 1 1/2 cups Cream of Coconut?
