This simple cake recipe from scratch has all the flavors of a Louisiana praline, but in cake form. If you love the combination of chocolate and pecans in pralines, you'll love Louisiana Cake. Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 orange rind, grated
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Prepare 9" x 12" x 2" pan with non-stick cooking spray.
     
  2. Combine oatmeal and water and let stand 15 minutes.
     
  3. Beat butter, eggs, brown sugar and sugar until creamy. Add oatmeal, flour, salt, soda, orange rind and 1 cup nuts. Beat 2 minutes. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes.
     
  4. Combine brown sugar, butter, cream and pecans. Pour over the cake and return to oven on broil for 2 minutes. Watch closely as this burns very easily.
