Grandma's Best Cabbage Dinner


Recipes with cabbage are great frugal dishes that the family loves. Grandma's Best Cabbage Dinner is a hearty dish that has been enjoyed for ages. Made with a few ingredients, the recipe comes together in minutes and tastes great. With buttered noodles, cabbage, and kielbasa, it's a comforting dish that will leave you feeling satisfied.

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 large head of cabbage, chopped into 1-2 inch pieces
  • 1 onion, quartered and sliced
  • 1/2 pound kielbasa, sliced into 1/4- 1/2 inch pieces
  • Egg noodles
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon caraway seeds, optional
  1. Cook butter noodles according to package.
  2. Chop up head of cabbage.
  3. Melt the butter in a large skillet. Add cabbage, kielbasa, onion and caraway seeds.
  4. Stirring occasionally, cook all on low to medium heat (heat can be higher if you're using a heavy bottomed skillet) till sausage is hot through, cabbage is tender, and onion is clear or almost clear, about 20-30 minutes (keep covered in between stirring).
  5. Season with pepper to taste. Serve over your the butter noodles.
