Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon dry active yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/3 cup water plus 1 tablespoon of water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Italian Herb Seasoning
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Add 1 1/3 cups water and olive oil to your automatic bread machine insert followed by the flours, cornmeal, sugar and salt.

  2. Level in pan evenly; make a small well in center of mixture - add yeast. Set machine to dough and start.

  3. Remove dough from bread machine and allow to rest for 10 minutes at room temperature.

  4. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F

  5. Grease baking sheets or cover with tin foil (shiny side up).

  6. On a well floured surface, cut dough mound into 6 pieces; roll each piece flat and using a pizza cutter, slice into 4 strips.

  7. Twist 2 strips together pinching the ends tightly; place on baking sheet.

  8. In a small bowl combine egg and 1 TBS water; whisk well.

  9. Brush egg wash over twisted dough sticks and sprinkle with Italian Herb seasoning. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
