Apple Pumpkin Pie Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • FOR THE BROWNED SUGAR GLAZE:
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13" x 9" baking pan.
     
  2. Beat applesauce, brown sugar, oil and eggs in a large mixer bowl on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally, for about 1 minute.
     
  3. Stir in Bisquick, pumpkin pie spice and nuts. Spread into pan.
     
  4. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, about 25 minutes.
     
  5. Prepare Browned Butter Glaze by heating butter over low heat until golden brown; remove from heat.
     
  6. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla.
     
  7. Stir in water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until smooth and of desired consistency.
     
  8. Allow cake mixture to cool before spreading with Browned Sugar Glaze. Cut into bars, about 3" x 1" in size.
